How to Reduce JPG File Size
JPGs from modern smartphones and digital cameras can easily exceed 5MB or even 10MB per photo. This makes them difficult to email and terrible for website loading times. Here is how to reduce them.
Method 1: Lower the Quality Setting
JPG is a lossy format, meaning you can dial down the "quality" to save space. Dropping a JPG from 100% quality to 80% quality will drastically reduce the file size, and most people won't even notice the difference. You can do this instantly with our JPG Compressor.
Method 2: Resize the Dimensions
If your photo is 4000x3000 pixels, it's way too big for a standard screen. By resizing the width to 1920 pixels using an Image Resizer, you discard a massive amount of unnecessary data, shrinking the file size accordingly.
Method 3: Target a Specific Size
Sometimes a portal or form requires an image to be strictly "under 200KB". In that case, guessing the quality slider can be annoying. Instead, use our Compress Image to KB tool, enter your desired file size, and let the algorithm do the math for you.
